Douglass Valley Military Housing

Awarded through the AFCEE Design/Build Plus Program, the Replacement Family Housing Project, located at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado, consisted of 92 three and four bedroom, JNCO and SNCO duplex and single-family units. The new site plan replaces an existing Douglas Valley neighborhood of “clustered” Capehart Housing with the tenets of a “New Urbanist” planned community.
Nestled against the south side of a wooded ridge, the unique character of a traditional, Colorado foothills community is achieved through street presence, front porches, tree lawns, sidewalks and a community “green” integrated into the flow of the street-way system. A variety of elevations and “home-owner” identification were achieved through 14 building types and three color palettes provided within the 33-acre neighborhood.
