In response to a campus-wide AT/FP security upgrade, the Visitor Entry Control Center & South Gate House facilitated the mission critical need to manage contractor, vendor, visitor and tourist access to the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. The planning and design incorporated AT/FP Standards related to: traffic calming; stand-off distances; blast-resistant glass; bullet-resistant glass and surveillance corridors. A sustainable, ground-source heat pump technology was implemented as the basis of the mechanical system.
The new 4,000 GSF Visitor Entry Control Center and the new 500 GSF South Gate House were designed to be consistent with the International Style design of the distinguished Air Force Academy. The $2.2m project included Roadway Remediation and Building Improvements as well as Parking and Site Improvements.
