Denver Health Western Addition

Denver Health and Hospital Authority
Denver, Colorado

Health Care Architects and Interior Designers are transforming bland institutional settings into consumer-friendly facilities. Customer-centered designs anticipate Patient’s and their Family’s needs and expectations from the parking lot to the critical care unit.

This thinking challenges the conventional wisdom of Hospital design with a new approach that actually contributes to improved Patient Care and clinical outcomes as well as champions a more humane environment for the Patient’s family to participate in their loved one’s healing process. Patients heal more quickly, use fewer pain medications and require shorter Hospital stays. At the same time, more humane environments create a better place to work and provide care - especially for the nursing staff.

Designed in association with Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz, the five-story, 130,090 SF Denver Health Western Addition expansion and renovation of the existing Denver Health Medical Center Hospital includes: a new 29-bed Correctional Care Medical Facility; new Outpatient Orthopedic and Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Clinic; a new 24-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit and two new 30-bed Acuity Adaptable Inpatient Room Units as well as new Lobby, Waiting and Support spaces. The renovation of the existing Hospital spaces includes: Outpatient Surgery; Anesthesiology Offices; Central Sterile and Medical Records.
