Lantz-Boggio Architects was asked to seek out a masonry restoration specialist to save the 1924 school building that is the center of town for
Manzanola,
Colorado. Cracks on the exterior were jeopardizing this historic building and inviting rain and ice to cause further damage. After much searching, Lantz-Boggio found a nationally known masonry restoration specialist in
Kansas who was willing to make the necessary repairs to save the building. Over a period of three months, the existing masonry was totally repointed and tucked, portions of the existing walls were rebuilt, the existing metal flashing was painted, and new exterior light fixtures were installed.
Lantz-Boggio Architects was asked to make interior upgrades to the Manzanola Junior/Senior High School, including new carpet, paint, acoustical panel ceilings, and upgraded restrooms. Carpet and acoustical panel ceilings improved the acoustics between each of the three levels of the building. Restrooms were in dire need of upgrading – pipes were exposed, the floor drains were inoperable, fixtures were not working properly, and restrooms were not accessible to those with physical disabilities. A staff restroom was also added for teachers and staff. The administration offices were remodeled and an overhead coiling door was added off the corridor, making better use of the office area.
