Aurora School District
Aurora, Colorado
The Aurora School District, the second largest public school district in Colorado, wanted to utilize a design-build contract for a new facility to house the transportation department for the district. This was the first time for the Aurora School District to utilize a design-build contract for a new building. The two modular buildings could no longer provide the space for this growing department, and a large meeting room was rented several times during the year to meet with the bus drivers. Lantz-Boggio Architects teamed with a contractor to complete the 8,400 sf single story building in just four months. The building had to meet the stringent requirements of the City of Aurora since it was along Airport Boulevard, and special overlay district for the city. A canopy and storefront system identifies the front entrance. Inside, the building contains offices, conference rooms, dispatch and scheduling rooms, as well as a large space used for training and break space for the bus drivers. Large windows on the building’s exterior walls and borrowed lites at interior partitions bring natural light for all rooms within the building.
